Since 1999, the Wallonia Water Company (SWDE) and IDEA have been studying the possibility of upgrading the mine water from quarries located in the Soignies and Ecaussinnes basins.
In order to manage the project, an Economic Interest Group (EIG) was created between the two project partners SWDE and IDEA.
In this region, the annual volumes of dewatering water are very important: more than 20 million m³/year, which were previously dumped directly into the rivers.
Currently, the water is first transferred to drinking water treatment plants. The treated water from the Soignies treatment plant is injected in the SWDE network, to the municipalities of Hainaut, Walloon Brabant and West Flanders to provide customers with drinking water.
Thanks to the Soignies and Ecaussinnes water treatment plants, it is possible to develop nearly 1,000 m³ of water per hour, ie more than 20,000 m³/day or 8 million m³/year!
The Clypot quarry at Neufvilles also supplies mine water to the GIE's drinking water treatment plants. Agreements have been signed between the various partners (Careers of Belgian Blue Stone, Belgian Cement Company, SAGREX and GIE) and the connection projects are in progress.
Based on the characteristics of the project and the objectives of its customers, CCB - HYDROTECH, EUFOR INTER has equipped a borehole with a 110 kW PLEUGER® submersible motor pump in 10 '' powered by a DANFOSS frequency converter and special power cables type HYDROFIRM 4x1x70 mm² EPR to minimise the diameter of installation. The submersible pump is suspended from a WELLMASTER® (Angus Flexible Pipelines) rising mains at a stainless steel wellhead designed and manufactured in the EUFOR INTER workshops. The ENDRESS + HAUSER instrumentation enables the operation and monitoring of the installation.
